<p>FIVE new sailing dinghies belonging to the Sea Scouts have been blessed by a clergyman.</p>
<p>The Rev Geoffrey Richardson, of St Peter’s Church, Shaldon, performed the ceremony at the Coombe Cellars base of the Teign Corinthian Yacht Club.</p>
<p>The five new RS Q’ba craft were purchased by the River Teign Sea Scouts 1st Shaldon Cubs, with two grants totalling about £4,400 from the Awards for All Big Lottery Fund and the Devon Community Fund.</p>
<p>‘It was really good to have Mr Richardson come and bless these boats, because it allows the children to see things being done properly and see traditional values being kept up,’ said David Bayliss, the Sea Scouts’ senior sailing instructor.</p>
<p>The group also put on a water activity evening for their Beaver Section, in which 24 youngsters took part.</p>
<p>It was supported by Alec Collyer, who took the Sea Scouts out for a ride on his steam boat, one of only three that were built in Shaldon.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: small;">On Friday afternoon I was informed that 2 scouts did not want to go. Again this meant getting the go ahead for a &#8216;not quite scout age&#8217; person to join our team.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: small;">We finally got to the event where we got drenched before we even set off. We set off, making good time to the first check point, at the check point we realised that we had, in fact, gone the wrong way and had to go back to the start and begin again.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: small;">The rest of the evening went quite smoothly with aching feet and tiredness being the only negative factors.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: small;">Obviously we were expecting to be told that we had come last or close to last but to my shock were told tonight that our team actually came in joint 2nd !!!</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: small;">I am so pleased with that result, especially after all the problems, that I just had to tell everyone.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></span></p>

<p>We have been to the zoo made things and even done a walk in the dark with the scouts.</p>
<p><img class="size-medium wp-image-294 alignnone" title="The Big tidy up" src="http://seascouts.me/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/dsc_1446-300x199.jpg" alt="The Big tidy up" width="300" height="199" /></p>
<p>I want to thank all the family and friends that helped on the big tidy up at the week end luckly the weather was with us and we had some nice sunshine. The beavers were more than happy at Shaldon Zoo and they all had a chance to see the aniamals. The cubs have had a few busy weeks making Jam, bird boxes and reclyed paper. The scouts have made laterns and pumpkins and a night walk in the dark at Decoy country park thats to Simon the park ranger for helping us.</p>
<p>The cub pack is at a record high and the orginising of the events over the past few weeks have paid off as you can see from the pictures.</p>
<p>If you have any feedback or comments feel free to drop me a line <a href="mailto:rocky@seascouts.me">rocky@seascouts.me</a></p>
<p>thanks again to all that have helped make this Month a smashing month for the kids.</p>
